DFT Dental camps

The maintenance of dental and gum health through preventive care is essential for overall well-being and quality of life. Inadequate access to dental healthcare in rural communities deprives them of the benefits of good oral health.

Many factors lead to dental health challenges in rural areas such as access to dental care, dental health awareness, tobacco use.

To alleviate the problems of the rural communities and create awareness about oral health, dental hygiene camps were organised in the village interiors in North India (2014 – 2017) where more than 10,000 people were given free medical checkups and consultations for over 3 years.

The team of doctors included renowned dentists such as Dr. Sumita Sagar.

Making people aware of the oral problems was a little step, but a major leap towards better dental health in rural communities.

Project -Kamakhya ( An Initiative on Mensuration Hygiene Awareness )

A woman’s menstrual health is essential for her overall well-being, as well as for the well-being of her family and community. However, in many cases, particularly in developing regions, entrenched cultural attitudes, traditions, and institutional biases hinder women from accessing the necessary menstrual health care to thrive. Menstrual hygiene remains one of the most complex development challenges today.

Instilling a positive approach towards menstruation and menstrual practices in young girls at the onset of menarche is crucial. To achieve this, it is imperative to incorporate menstrual hygiene into the health education curriculum for young girls.

The Drishti Foundation Trust has established “Project Kamakhya” – an initiative aimed at improving menstrual health and hygiene among adolescent girls. The project endeavours to raise awareness about menstrual health and hygiene among adolescent girls through awareness programs conducted in rural areas and urban slums.

The project’s vision is to empower girls with knowledge and awareness of menstrual hygiene, enabling them to manage their menstruation hygienically, privately, safely, and with dignity, both at home and within their communities.

This sensitisation program aims to provide practical guidance on menstruation management, improve girls’ understanding of personal hygiene, and boost their confidence by addressing their unanswered questions through interactive and engaging training methods. Additionally, it seeks to dispel myths and taboos surrounding this issue.

The goal is to sensitize over 50,000 girls annually from rural communities, schools, and colleges on Menstrual Hygiene. The project strives to bring about sustainable changes in menstrual hygiene practices, with the long-term expectation of improving the health and quality of life of girls through these sensitisation programs.

Project Self-Esteem by DFT

Proper hygiene and grooming are essential not only for mental well-being but also for enhancing confidence and self-esteem.

In observance of Mental Health Day, DFT initiated Project Self-Esteem, offering free grooming sessions for individuals with special needs on a regular basis. Attendees receive valuable self-care and grooming guidance during these sessions.

During the initial phase of Project Self-Esteem, approximately 50 differently-abled children received complimentary grooming services in collaboration with VLCC. The smiles and improved body language displayed by the participants serve as a testament to the positive impact that grooming can have on individuals.

DFT Nature walk

“Just existing is insufficient. One must have exposure to sunlight, the freedom to roam, and the beauty of nature.” – Hans Christian Andersen

It has been scientifically established that spending time in natural surroundings has a positive impact on an individual’s overall well-being.

The fast pace of modern life and evolving lifestyles have disconnected us from nature and its enriching benefits, resulting in anxiety, premature aging, and mental health issues.

DFT organises nature walks every month at picturesque locations to reestablish the connection between people and nature, as well as among themselves. These walks encompass ice-breakers, team activities, motivational sessions, and discussions with mental health experts, in addition to the nature tours.
