Drishti Foundation Trust: A 27-Year Journey of Vision, Impact, and Environmental Legacy

In the annals of philanthropic and environmental stewardship in India, Drishti Foundation Trust stands as a beacon of unwavering commitment and visionary leadership with UNEP accreditation . With roots that trace back to July 16, 1998, the foundation was born out of a profound aspiration to drive meaningful environmental research and development aimed at ecological restoration and community empowerment. Officially registered that year, and later re-established with a strong operational presence in Gujarat on September 28, 2012, the organization has since grown into a globally UNEP recognized non-profit.

With more than 27 years of dedicated service, Drishti Foundation Trust has championed initiatives across River Rejuvenation, Ocean Cleaning, Water Conservation, Pond Cleaning, Tree Plantation and Maintenance, Protection of Wildlife, Disaster Management, and Ecosystem and Biodiversity. Our Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC (United Nations Economic and Social Council) since 2017 and our accreditation by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) are testaments to our credibility and international impact.

The Origin: Planting Seeds of Change (1998)

The journey of Drishti Foundation began with a dream — to create an institution centered on knowledge, compassion, and sustainability. On July 16, 1998, this dream materialized with the registration of Drishti Foundation Trust. The early years were marked by grassroots initiatives, community awareness programs, and a research-driven approach to problem-solving in environmental domains and UNEP accreditation.

Our vision was clear: to blend scientific understanding with traditional wisdom to heal and preserve India’s rich natural heritage. Through partnerships with local communities, schools, and volunteers, we initiated small but significant projects in water management and afforestation, laying the foundation for what would become a nationwide movement.

Strengthening Our Roots in Gujarat (2012)

The decision to re-establish our operational headquarters in Gujarat in 2012 was a pivotal moment. Gujarat’s unique ecological challenges and opportunities provided fertile ground for scaling our work. From coastal conservation to drought-prone zone interventions, our projects began to reflect the diversity of India’s environmental concerns.

It was from Gujarat that Drishti Foundation Trust evolved from a regional initiative to a national and global force. Our mission expanded, our team grew, and our partnerships with academic institutions, local governments, and international bodies strengthened which includes the UNEP acknowledgement or our Initatives.

Initiatives That Define Us

River Rejuvenation: Rivers are lifelines of our civilization. Drishti Foundation Trust has led large-scale river rejuvenation efforts by desilting riverbeds, restoring flow channels, and planting native vegetation along riverbanks. These efforts have led to the revival of groundwater tables, improved agricultural productivity, and enhanced biodiversity.

Ocean Cleaning: Marine ecosystems are under threat due to plastic and industrial waste. We have launched regular ocean and beach clean-up drives, awareness campaigns, and coastal community engagement programs. These initiatives aim not just to clean, but to educate and prevent future pollution.

Water Conservation and Pond Cleaning: Water scarcity is a pressing issue across India. Through the cleaning and restoration of ponds and the construction of check dams and rainwater harvesting systems, we have empowered villages to become self-sufficient in water.

Tree Plantation and Maintenance: Plantation is not a one-day activity. We focus on planting native and resilient species and maintaining them for years. Our green corridors and urban forestry projects have improved air quality, reduced urban heat, and provided shelter to countless species.

Wildlife Protection: From patrolling with forest guards to setting up eco-clubs in schools, our wildlife protection initiatives aim at conserving endangered species and promoting coexistence. Community-driven conservation is at the heart of this effort.

Disaster Management: Whether it was COVID-19, floods, or earthquakes, Drishti Foundation Trust has always been at the forefront of relief work. Our disaster response includes rescue operations, supply distribution, and long-term rehabilitation.

Ecosystem and Biodiversity Restoration: We believe in restoring what nature intended. Through eco-restoration projects, organic farming support, and biodiversity parks, we are regenerating the natural balance that has been lost.

Global Recognition and Partnerships

In 2017, our efforts were internationally acknowledged when we were awarded the Special Consultative Status by ECOSOC, United Nations. This allows us to participate in global discussions, influence policy, and collaborate with international agencies on sustainable development.

Further, our accreditation by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) underlines our commitment to ecological conservation and aligns us with global climate goals.

The Logo: A Story of Identity, Purpose, and Vision

The logo of Drishti Foundation Trust is not merely a visual symbol; it is a profound expression of our ethos and mission.

The central motif is a stylized representation of a human figure formed by two dynamic shapes. The green element, shaped like a plant sprouting into two vibrant leaves, represents nature, growth, and sustainability. It also suggests a person with uplifted arms, symbolizing empowerment, hope, and community involvement.

The orange element complements the green by forming a harmonious curve, resembling a flowing river or wind. This signifies motion, energy, and the continuum of life. Together, the green and orange form a balanced human-environment relationship.

The red circle at the center represents the soul or heart — the passionate core of our work. It is also reminiscent of the rising sun, representing a new dawn, vision, and enlightenment — a “Drishti”.

The tagline, “Informed by Nature, Guided by Purpose,” underlines our philosophy. Every initiative we take is grounded in natural wisdom and driven by a higher purpose. This alignment of intent and action is what gives our logo life and legacy.

Towards Drishti 2030: Our Roadmap for the Future

As we move forward, our Drishti 2030 vision includes:

  • Expanding to 200+ water bodies across India.
  • Setting up Centers for Climate Innovation and Research.
  • Creating India’s largest youth-driven environmental volunteer force.
  • Building eco-libraries and green knowledge hubs in schools.
  • Strengthening indigenous knowledge systems in climate resilience.

A Legacy Built with Vision

From a seed of thought in 1998 to a flourishing global movement today, Drishti Foundation Trust embodies the power of vision and perseverance. Our journey has never been about scale alone, but about depth, impact, and legacy. Every river we clean, every tree we plant, and every life we touch adds to this evolving story of hope.

As we complete over 27 years, we recommit ourselves to the ideals that founded us: ecological balance, social equity, and sustainable development. We invite partners, changemakers, volunteers, and dreamers to walk this path with us. Because together, we can build a greener, wiser, and more compassionate world and UNEP Accreditation.
